A Better View

Well, I think that I am leaning towards Floor Plan 2.

Here are my Interior Ideas in perspective views to help you visualize the floor plan better:

the Top Two

My husband went back to Green Element Resale to pay and donate, and even brought home both end tables!   We will go back for the other furniture pieces in the next few days.

Here are my top 2 Interior Ideas:

This plan creates the look of a built-in book shelf on the left wall.  The small hutch gives us a place to set our keys and my purse when we walk in.  The work space is separated from the entertainment area, and the dining table is centered on the window.  The keyboard is available, though not a focal point, and has easy access for a seat.

This plan creates some formality in the space with the end tables flanking the existing book case.  This trio also balances the window on the opposite wall.  Now, the second book case gives extra storage in our work space- which is great for all of our text books.  Plus, the hutch can be used for our new Ninja Blender and some odds n' ends.  The end table closest to the entry still gives us a place to set our keys- phew!

It's all about "the Find"

I stopped by our local thrift shop a few times this week, and spotted some good finds.

I found a cherry wood writing desk that can be used as our television stand.  I wanted something unconventional, so I thought that would be perfect.  Plus, it has brass accents!

These two brown/black side tables are a nice pair.  They are a little scuffed up, but it's nothing that a Sharpie or stain pen can't fix.

On the next aisle I found a large white bookcase.  It can be placed with our current bookcase (also from the same shop) to look like a large built-in, or it can be in my husband's workspace.

I started brainstorming immediately, and decided to get pricing.  I was getting too attached and would be disappointed if someone else got these pieces.  Matt, my contact, offered $100 for all.  I used my bartering skills, to bring it down a bit.  I offered to make a clothing donation, and then he offered to pay the tax.  That's right, all four pieces for $90!!!  Thanks Matt!

GREEN ELEMENT RESALE "saving green all the way around," is just a few blocks from our apartment, here in Chicago.  They support Big Medicine, NFP : Rx for a sustainable planet.  Its mission is: Lets put an end to using our tax dollars to destroy our earth and the quality of life."

Finally...

I have been waiting several months for today to come...

I'm an Interior Designer trying to make it in a new city- the Windy City. I moved to Chicago 4 months ago. I got a job in a showroom, but it was a total bust. Then I made a trip back to California with my Fiance for some wedding planning. Amazingly, upon my return I got a great part-time job as an Interior Design Assistant. I've been married for 3 weeks, as of today :) , and I finally, FINALLY got to start designing our Newlyweds Chicago Apartment!!!

Even my new husband is excited for the process to begin. We've been living in a blank box, with cardboard boxes lining the walls filled with our stuff. It's time to get started! So, I drew out the floor plan, and brainstormed ideas for several hours.

There are two main determinants for the space plan:
No. 1: Will the sofa stay on the center wall, or will we move it across the room so there is no view of the bathroom?
No. 2: Will the workspace remain in the dining area near the kitchen, or bring it adjacent to the window? (My husband is in grad school so he studies, a lot)

Here are a few of my Interior Ideas:
